Fiesta de la Naranja in Coín

A celebration of oranges and local life

Every spring, the town of Coín briefly revolves around one thing: the orange.

During the Fiesta de la Naranja, Coín celebrates its agricultural heritage, its local products and, above all, its strong sense of community.

What began as a small local initiative has grown into a well-established annual tradition, firmly rooted in everyday life in the Andalusian countryside.

A gastronomic village festival

The Fiesta de la Naranja traditionally takes place on and around the Plaza José Bermúdez de la Rubia, where the atmosphere slowly builds from late morning onwards.

Visitors can taste:

•freshly squeezed orange juice

•orange salad

•the traditional sopa hervía, a simple local soup

Each year, thousands of kilos of oranges are used during the festival, sourced from the surrounding Guadalhorce Valley, where citrus cultivation has shaped the landscape for generations.

Market, music and encounters

Alongside food and drink, a small market brings together local producers and artisans. You will find:

•citrus fruit and other regional products

•cheeses, bread and sweets

•handmade crafts and ceramics

Throughout the day, music and dance create a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. Despite its popularity, the Fiesta de la Naranja never feels overwhelming – it remains a festival by and for the local community.

More than just an event

What makes this festival special is that it is not designed as a tourist attraction. It is a moment when everyday village life becomes visible: neighbours chatting, families sharing food, children playing on the square.

For guests interested in the rhythm of the Andalusian interior, the Fiesta de la Naranja offers an authentic glimpse into local life.

Coín and its surroundings

Orange groves have long been part of the landscape around Coín. Visiting the festival often naturally leads to exploring the surrounding countryside, something we also describe in our favourite quiet outings from the finca.

Many guests combine the festival with a gentle walk or a relaxed afternoon back at the finca.

Staying during Fiesta de la Naranja

Finca La Toronja is located just outside the centre of Coín. From the finca, it is easy to:

•walk into town

•or reach the festival by car within a few minutes

After a lively morning on the square, you can easily return to calm and open space – a balance that reflects the kind of stay described in For whom Finca La Toronja is ideal (and for whom it is not).

Practical information

In summary

The Fiesta de la Naranja is not a grand spectacle, but a warm and genuinely local celebration that reflects the pace of life in the Andalusian countryside.

For those who appreciate authenticity over spectacle, it is a small but meaningful experience.
